Music - Mrs. Karol McCarthy

The Music program at Saint Joseph School develops in students an appreciation of music by exposing them to a variety of musical styles. Music theory and the reading of music is a major part of our success. Enthusiastic singing is a hallmark of our program. By the time students graduate, they will have developed a greater understanding of music’s place in history and the relationship between music and the other arts. Hopefully, they will also develop a lifelong appreciation of music.
Music is taught in Kindergarten through grade 8. Students are introduced to a wide variety of music genres, such as inspirational, patriotic, jazz, blues, popular and spiritual. Time is also spent exploring a wide range of rhythm instruments from different cultures and nationalities.

Students are encouraged to put their enthusiasm, knowledge, and love of music into practice by participating in monthly liturgies, performing in two seasonal concerts, a school-produced musical in the spring, and enhancing special events and celebrations as they occur. Our program also offers students in grades two through six an opportunity to explore the keyboard and trumpet through group instruction which meets after school.

Our music program is always changing and growing. The eagerness of both the students and staff to strengthen our program is critical to its success.
