Physical Education - Mrs. Karol McCarthy

The physical education program at Saint Joseph School provides students with the skills and knowledge needed to lead a healthy and active lifestyle. Activities are chosen to insure that all children succeed in attaining their individual goals. Students have the opportunity to develop a level of fitness according to their own physical abilities and are encouraged to appreciate the benefits of being fit and healthy. Positive peer interaction through teamwork and good sportsmanship is emphasized. Teammates are encouraged to assist each other and all are included in game strategies.
All grades participate in physical education. Kindergarten through grade eight meet each week. Each activity is planned to accommodate the overall class ability. Individual needs are taken into consideration. Further adaptations are made according to equipment and space availability.

We do have access to a great gymnasium and large space for outdoor activities. Each year, we do something to upgrade our equipment and supplies. We also participate in the Presidential Physical Fitness Challenge each year. Students monitor their own progress from year to year and are proud of what they accomplish. We offer both boys and girls of grades six through eight the opportunity to join the school’s basketball teams, as well as girl’s cheerleading squad that competes in a yearly competition.

The primary goal of the physical education program is to teach students to appreciate the gift of life and health that God has given them.
