Weekly Newsletter November 8th 2019

Parents in Grades 1 Kindergarten are needed to assist at Bingo during the coming weeks.  Please report to the gym for job assistance by 4:30 and be sure to sign in on the Attendance Form so your family receives credit for working at Bingo. Also, it is IMPERATIVE that you sign out before you leave at the end of the evening.  You will not receive credit for working Bingo hours if you do not sign out. Your assistance is greatly appreciated.  As stated on page 4 of the Student Handbook; “You must sign in and out on the Bingo Attendance sheet to receive your credit. Parents are not allowed to have anyone else work their Bingo hours. You may not be signed in or out by another parent.”  Thank you to all those families who regularly help at Bingo.  We appreciate all your help!

Fall MAP Test Scores

Students in Kindergarten through Grade 8 received the results of their Fall MAP Test Scores on Friday, November 8, 2019.  These scores will assist teachers in understanding the readiness level for each student and enabling teachers to provide individual instruction for each student.  These scores also assist us in predicting those students who might qualify for our advanced Math program beginning in Grade 6, as well as providing us with valuable information for those students who are struggling in both literacy and numeracy skills.  You will find an additional attachment in this week’s newsletter email that explains the significance of these scores.

First Trimester Ends

Grades for First Trimester close on Friday, November 15, 2019 as we prepare for students in Grades K-8 to receive first report cards in early December.

Winter Calendar Sales begins

Each family is asked to sell…or purchase…. ten Holiday Calendars at a cost of $10 each.  This is one of only two school-wide fundraisers that we ask all families to participate in.  Your cooperation and participation are critical to the success of this effort.  The oldest child in each family will receive an envelope on Friday, November 15 that contains ten calendars, as well detailed explanations of student incentives.  The first drawing of calendars is Wednesday, December 25 for $300.00 with daily drawings through January 2020.  Daily winners will be listed on our school website and all winner’s names are returned into the daily drawing.  These calendars also make great stocking stuffers!!!

Volunteer Cheerleading Coach Wanted

We would like to continue our cheerleader program again this fall.  We are looking for parent volunteers who would be willing to coach our students in Grades 4-8 on the rudiments of cheerleading and also prepare them to cheer at home games.  We hope to start as soon as we can find a willing volunteer.  Please email Dr. Merritt as soon as possible with your suggestions and ideas on this program.  Thank you for your willingness to coach our students.

Holiday Parent-Night-Out

On Saturday, December 7 from 5:00pm to 9:00pm, Grade 8 families are hosting a Parent-Night-Out.  Grade  8 students and their parents will supervise various activities for young children while their parents go Christmas shopping or just enjoy a night out together.  A flyer with all details was sent home on Friday, November 8.  Proceeds to go to deferring the cost of the 8th Grade Class Trip to Washington DC.  See the flyer for details.

Below you will find a list of events for the upcoming weeks and to assist with planning.

Thank you and God bless.

Dr. Corinne R. Merritt
